Zawodny on NASA: Full Support For Project

January 18, 2012

NASA scientist Joe Zawodny was at centre stage a few days ago, first for his star role in NASA’s first public-facing video extolling the real potential of cold fusion and then for posting a personal reply on his blog that appeared (as some interpreted it) an attempt to dampen over zealous extrapolations from what was said into commercial claims by third parties. In the absence of insider information, that correcting post was itself subject to speculation and probably caused much hair pulling. To some, it meant he was backpedaling – he ‘was got at’ by the powers above. Overall, it was seen as a negative spin on what should have been a positive story. I would not blame Dr Zawodny if he fell to a sense of exasperation – a feeling that he just can’t win when trying to explain himself in such a contentious arena beyond the space he shares with his professional coleagues.

I thought it worth pointing the following out to those of you who think he was trying to dampen the importance of his work. {Despite my earlier statement, the post was written in 2009. Interesting and worth pointing out but nevertheless an error on my part].

Capture the moment

Filed under: Energy, The Future — JMZ @ 0223

I’ve been working on a special project at work. I can’t talk about the subject just yet, but hopefully soon. Let’s just say that it has the potential to change everything for just about everyone on the planet. I had the opportunity to present my work to management and it went exceptionally well. I have complete support for the next phase of the project. The events of the day are still soaking in and I wanted to capture the moment – here. This is really great news for everyone. Wish me well and I’ll do my best for you.

Capture the moment was posted in 2009 !

While Zawodny for obvious reasons cannot endorse Rossi’s ecat, this should convince the skeptics that LENR is real. The only (big) question remaining is if it can be made commercially viable.

It’s time to act and not to chat. The big things
are to come. For ex the multiGw power plants
the atomic airplane, and ships and why not the
giant space umbrellas to secure the North and
South Pôles to cite a few … and armies of robots
to empower man from its every day slave tasks.
Indeed human is born to think and not to manually

I saw that last night on his blog. Hope Joe can talk more about this soon! 🙂

I see President Obama might announce opposition to the Keystone pipeline project. Hope these developments are known and part of that decision! Just wild speculation on my end of course, lol.

Obama’s behavior, dictated by his owners, is to pile on the pressure regarding the mythical threat of man made global warming (MMMGW). This means support for turning agricultural land into ethanol production and continued unregulated financial derivatives and speculation on food prices. Another bogus crisis caused by MMMGW will be the canceling of energy pipelines. It is hoped that MMMGW will turn us all into neurotics, where every action we take will be reflected in the carbon emissions balance (CEB). Every device, every item of consumption will be reported to the government, world government, for its CEB effect.

Pekka Janhunen beat me to it.

Honestly it would have been very exiting if it was just made, but its 3 years old so it doesnt really change much in terms of wheather LENR is for real and usable or not.

Seems like it’s time for some more backpedalling. It indeed looks like this blog entry is three years old.

Zawodny should be well down the road with his project by now then, maybe that’s why he appears so in favour of LENR now…

I know there is people related to reading this forum, may i ask if Mr. Lewis Larsen is behind that project ?

        From your website:

“The reactors will be cheap and may be available to everybody depending on permit requirements.”

I wish you every success in emancipating LANR engineering from the grip of Microsoft LENR companies.

I respectfully suggest that you remove the words “To repeat, these words were posted the day after the video went live” and similar allusions in your story. As the header you quote plainly states, the quote is from January 13, 2009. Surely you can at least maintain some level of accuracy here.

I have to sum myself to the other petitions of clarification, this blog entry is even prior to the filing of the provisional patent in 2010. While it’s obvious Zawodny was really aware of the importance of his work, it’s clear this was 3 years ago.

  13. Timar

    January 18, 2012 at 7:33 pm

I totally agree JNewman. This a a really embarrassing article for eCat News. The 2009 is even in the headline!

It should be the absolute minimum of a journalist’s duty to get such a simple thing right.

    • georgehants

      January 18, 2012 at 7:51 pm

Timar, an error perhaps but most of us i hope are just going to look at it as something that can easily happen on a small website that’s main purpose is to give us somewhere to air our views.
I take it that where total fraud and incompetence has been shown in Cold Fusion you are vigorously campaigning to have these people brought before an independent investigation and P & F given the full apology they deserve.

      January 18, 2012 at 8:20 pm

Come on, don’t be too bad on the guy. We all have off days.

However, surely it’s still very relevant. What else could this be but LENR? I think back in 2009 everyone at NASA was convinced they were on to something BIG. The next phase of the project must have been the building of a working prototype which was the basis for the patent application .

It’s pretty clear that in contradiction to the infamous “clarification” LENR is a done deal at NASA. Clearly the video was meant to herald the next phase, commercialisation and steal Rossi’s thunder as well.

The whole thing stinks to high heaven!

  14. Thicket

    January 18, 2012 at 7:47 pm

Putting aside the blog post age issue, Zawodny’s post does show a penchant for claiming to be doing wonderful, planet-changing but mysteriously secret work. At best, he’s still working on it. At worst, nothing came of it… whatever it was.

    • daniel maris

      January 18, 2012 at 8:21 pm

Is this a new Swedish player in the LENR marketplace?

LANR = Lattice Assisted Nuclear Reactions

New site is in development and will be published by the end of january.

We are currently in the initial phase of development.

We intend to start production on multiple types of reactor cores by the end of 2012.

The reactors will be cheap and may be available to everybody depending on permit requirements.

It is optimistic, but the technology is fairly straightforward based on our understanding.

“Is 3M one of the 1MW eCat Customers?” or is it just a rumor…

    • JNewman

      January 18, 2012 at 8:06 pm

I’m sure 3M will be mentioned from this day onward as more “proof” of the validity of Rossi’s work. And just think of all the other companies around the world that will gladly supply a “no comment” to questions about Rossi. Why, there could be thousands! There is so much to be excited about.

OK, I critized this article here for beeing sloppy journalism, but the “3M” news at Free Energy Truth is actually much worse. I’t completely devoid of ANY meaningful content.
It spreads a pointless speculation without offering neither the slightest bit of evidence, nor even a source of it. It’s really “EXCLUSIVE” noise.

      • atanguy

        January 18, 2012 at 9:01 pm

No! It’s not the BIG NEWS… It has to come yet.

      • Free Energy Truth

        January 19, 2012 at 12:06 am

Timar – It would have been EASY for 3M to simply say “Dear Free Energy Truth, we can confirm that we have no business relationship with either the eCat technology or indeed Andrea Rossi”.

So what did they say instead? They left the statement open ended.

        Draw your own conclusions.

        • GreenWin

          January 19, 2012 at 3:50 am

Basic training for these types is to neither confirm or deny any kind of relationship with the subject entity. Some forget that basic training reveals much.

    • daniel maris

      January 18, 2012 at 8:45 pm

Now that’s the sort of rumour I like! 🙂

The sniffy reply sounds overly defensive. It could be a standard reply but it might indicate something. They look like just the sort of company that might buy one to check it out, to make sure they can anticipate changes in market demand if it does work. $2million might sound a lot but if you lose billions by making the wrong decision about what’s going to happen to oil and gas for instance, then it’s not much even as a safety throw.

Another point I would make: I think these big companies are probably benefitting from advice
from official agencies about whether there is a genuine device in place. In that sense they are not taking the same risk that you or I would.

      • Timar

        January 18, 2012 at 8:56 pm

I don’t get it. Why should this reply from 3M indicate ANYthing? It’s common practise for most large companies to keep business relations confident. It’s most probably their standard reply to every unauthorized inquiry, they give without even investigating it.

        • daniel maris

          January 18, 2012 at 8:59 pm

That’s nonsense. Most businesses are quite happy to say who they work with (as in the National Instruments briefing). And they are quite happy to issue denials when an alleged association is untrue and might embarrass them in some way.

          • Timar

            January 18, 2012 at 9:04 pm

if you believe that, I suppose that you do a simple test: write 3G if they have a business relation with some imaginary company you make up. I bet you’ll get the very same reply.

          • daniel maris

            January 18, 2012 at 9:28 pm

            Timar –

I haven’t said it’s not a standard reply. Some companies might be careful about the information they give out.

    • Josh

      January 18, 2012 at 8:57 pm

Freeenergytruth is mostly worthless and does more harm than good in my opinion. They’ve now identified NI as the buyer (retracted) and 3M (with zero evidence other than an unnamed source). I appreciate the work of the admin at ecatnews much more.

      • daniel maris

        January 18, 2012 at 9:00 pm

Yes, but they were right about the NI connection – were they the first to mention that?

        • Josh

          January 18, 2012 at 9:13 pm

I don’t recall who first mentioned NI, but I think freeenergytruth just piggy-backed on the announcement and took it one step further by stating they were the buyer because their name started with an ‘n’. The “story” was pulled within a few hours when another site published actual correspondence with NI discussing their relationship.

      • Josh

        January 18, 2012 at 9:00 pm

He also censors comments over zealously. I (mostly nicely, with a bit of incredulity) pointed out that his article was devoid of any real evidence… obviously it wasn’t published.

        • Free Energy Truth

          January 19, 2012 at 12:42 am

Our editorial policy is quite clear. Comments containing personal attacks and insults are never published.

          • Loonyman

            January 19, 2012 at 8:38 am

Here is a quote from “Free Energy Truth” AKA “News Editor” over on the sceptical “Moletrap forum” when asked if he would be printing the Zawodny clarification..

“As soon as this place starts to post pro free energy threads and Randi admits he was wrong then you can rest assured I will post Zawodny’s backtracking “clarification”.

This, along with the fact HE HAS NEVER ONCE issued a statement or apology regarding the “free energy” projects he has promoted over the years which have since been proved to be false give you a good idea of his “editorial policy”, ( personal agenda would be a better term in my opinion)

          • 007

            January 19, 2012 at 8:40 pm

Free energy stories come and go – we report them in the same way newspapers report politics. Does it mean newspapers should apologise for politicians not sticking to their campaign promises?

Loonyman you seem to be confused between the words “promoted” and “written about”.

            And moletrap?….Pffttt.

      Brilliant video.

Can the sharp-eyed among us examine the 1 MW machine to see if it is different from the first one produced? On first viewing the container does look a little different to me, but I might be wrong.

      • Frank

        January 18, 2012 at 9:59 pm

Have a look look right side of the container (front view with open doors).
There you can see a sloppy vertical welded-on support bracket.
The ‘welding burn marks’ you can see are the same as the one on the ‘Oct. 28 e-cat’ in Mats Lewans video

This means, the container shown in the new video is the same one as used for the Oct. 28 test – but most likely somwhen after the test.
The building in which the container stands also looks like Rossis premise.
Would like to know when the video from the container was taken …

        • daniel maris

          January 18, 2012 at 10:25 pm

The internal fittings are certainly different. There’s some red circle thing with chains hanging down on the back in one but not the other.

          • Frank

            January 18, 2012 at 10:57 pm

What you call the ‘red circle thing’ is just a hoist / pulley block which is used to lift heavy equipment.
So just a tool which you temporary install when you need to bring in/out some equipment.

        • Peter Poulsen

          January 18, 2012 at 11:30 pm

          Its the same container allright.

Furthermore it still stand in the same warehouse in italy that was used for the oct 6 test.
check 13 seconds into this clip:

And compare it with the structure of the warehouse 14 seconds into your clip:

So the container has allegeable been sold but it hasnt been moved eventhough Rossi stated they took it with them(cant find the post but he did say it somewhere)

That doesnt really make sense. There is still no proff that he works and spends the most of him time in the US. All his videos posted comes from the same warehouse in Italy also.

          • Frank

            January 18, 2012 at 11:42 pm

Did you notice at the end of the video you can spot somebody in the background sitting lonely at a table. – Hard to identify who this one is, but looks somehow like ‘Colonel Fioravanti’ is still struggling with the controls of the thermodynamics 😉

            January 19, 2012 at 12:34 am

Rossi confirmed in his blog that the container is the one from the last October test.

            Dear Italo R.
Yes, it is the same: we are still working on it with National Instruments and with the Customer. It will take another month before it will be ready.
            Warm Regards,

So, should we really believe that an anonymous customer paid 2 Mio. US$ for a container which is still in Rossi’s workshop ???
What did Rossi say in the interview? Didn’t he say “We have a industrial product ready for the market”?

          • daniel maris

            January 19, 2012 at 12:36 am

We did have a story recently (around December) that the first E cat sold had been returned (I think it said returned) to be fitted with new controls to enhance sustainability. So, I just put it forward, that it is not impossible this is the returned E cat being fitted out.

If Rossi is a fraudster he’s a very poor one for not anticipating we would compare containers. So who is going to ask him the question on JNP ?

          • Peter Poulsen

            January 19, 2012 at 12:45 am

Well its good news for his credibility if he have said it has been returned for refitting.
I just dont fully understand why a big organisation that have bought 12(13?) plants want to refit it at rossis somewhat low tech warehouse. Surely they must have much more professional locations for refitting it, and much better instruments and tools available.

Its just seems weird that it is being refitted in his own warehouse in Bolgna while he as he has stated many times spend most of his time in the US.

          • spacegoat

            January 19, 2012 at 4:18 am

“Its just seems weird that it is being refitted in his own warehouse in Bolgna”

Rossi is protecting his LENR reaction “sauce”, the secret of which he is protecting by retrofitting in “private”.

          • Tony

            January 19, 2012 at 4:10 pm

Doesn’t seem weird to me. That container never did leave the building. If this doesn’t toss up yet another round of red flags, then you folks are not paying attention.

I don’t remember any post at all about the unit being returned. I’d like to see it if it exists. If it doesn’t, then AR is caught in (another) bald-faced lie.

        • Peter Poulsen

          January 18, 2012 at 11:52 pm

Ohh btw if you look 1.17 min into this clip:

you see a person that is doing something with a device. That is the same person that Rossi talks to, at the end of your video. Who is he?

          • Frank

            January 19, 2012 at 12:11 am

That guy you can spot on many e-cat videos – he seems to be a craftman of Rossi’s staff.
BTW: I was always wondering how big Rossi’s staff might be.
Any idea how many engineers, designers, procurement staff, HR, lawyers etc etc. might be in his team?
In his blog and interviews, when he talks about his challenging business plans, he quite often says ‘we’ will …
Quite curious, who all are behind the word ‘we’.

          • Peter Poulsen

            January 19, 2012 at 12:26 am

Yeah that would be interresting to know.

Btw if Colonel Fioravanti is the same person that Nyteknik links a picture of:

Then its 99% likely its the same person that is discussing something with another man in a suit in this video 1.13 min into the clip:(Fioravanti also have his cap on in this clip)

So this guy is the official buyer according to Rossi i guess.

    • Peter Poulsen

      January 18, 2012 at 9:02 pm

Interresting video, but he should stop making public statements about the device, when he dont want to give us clear proff that the device is working.

I mean his comments are all exiting and everything but they are pretty meaningless as long as there isnt any concrete proff that the E-Cat works.

Rossi is leaving everyone (particularly the “chattering class”) in the dust. Who really cares what NASA, the DOE, or any other ossified bureocratic organization thinks? When the first home e-cats start pouring out of Rossi’s automated factory like sausages, the world will change, and all those scientists who want billions of dollars and decades to research LENR can take a flying leap off a short pier.

Exactly correct. The end of 2012 will leave most nay sayers in the dust heap including a lot our so-called imminent physicists….

Brad, I believe the expression is, “take a long walk, off a short pier.” But the image is the same. It’s interesting to see people use traditional analysis on a phenomenon that is so utterly non-traditional.

Who actually built that 1MW unit anyhow? And to what specifications? Could the robotic assembly plant be located in some undisclosed territory? To avoid disruption?

And why are certain energy-related web sites refusing to publish the NASA video?? Deleting the link from their pages?? Fun to speculate.

Neil taylor..the end of 2012 will leave both naysayers and yaysayers in the dust if global economics continues on its downward spiral and if america does actualy bomb iran,at the same time.i dare say any miracle source of cheap energy will only serve to accelerate this demise

It is no surprise to me at all. There are many theories that fit the given facts, most of them pretty far fetched, but the one theory that also fits is that Rossi never sold anything, and the unit never left his workshop, and he is conducting a scam on a grand scale.

He has stated that he plans on selling a million ecats in the first year, that works out at manufacturing 2800 per day, or 117 per hour.
Anyone with any experience of manufacturing will tell you, it would be almost impossible to hide a faculty capable of producing 2800 a day of ANYTHING, let alone a complicated device like the ecat. ( And don’t forget Rossi has just changed the specs so the ecat can produce hot water on demand, can you IMAGINE the cost and time needed to alter the process on such a large scale production??)

The whole thing stinks to high heaven, but its obviously the elephant in this particular room, ’cause non of you are talking about it…

Another voice of reality in the La-La Land of AR.

      Thank you!

Just look up the Genesis World Energy scam of 5 years back and you can see the template that AR is using.

So he is a master fraudster…who is stupid enough to show the first 1 MW E cat in the latest video…?!

      That also stretches credulity.

An empty factory site is not necessarily that evident to passers by.

Clearly Rossi is talking about being ready assemble the E cats towards the end of 2012.

The machine is not that complex. During WW2 all sorts of new products were put into production in short time periods and then were subject to major modification.

Rossi is working with NI on SOMETHING.

As scams go it’s got be the most complicated in history.

I have to say that the nature of this technology is very likely to upset the Big Oil companies and half the middle East. Rossi may be prevented from bringing this to market for those reasons alone.

One has to remember that if E-cats reduce the markets of oil in heating and the price of oil will drop, it will drop to a level where it’s still profitable to produce it where the production is cheapest, which includes the Persian Gulf. So unless wars intervene, oil production would be expected to continue at least for some time in the Middle East, although it might be strongly reduced in places like the North Sea, Alaska or Siberia. But of course the fat profits of oil companies become history as soon as the demand for oil gets reduced.

The withdrawal was worded in a manner that suggested it was dictated by either NASA lawyers or those of the White House.

Much too slick with different verbal patterns it did not belong to the Good Dr.

God only knows why there is this campaign by government to downplay this technology other than they are afraid of the change from the ” status quo”.

Rossi et al are not going to come in that fast But I do remember that the White House shutdown the ONR work and that both Shell Oil and Amoco proved up the phenomenon circa 1995 and buried the research.

The fear will give others the lead now that the cat is out of the bag. Hello China, India, Japan and Korea. They will once again eat our lunch.

“God only knows why there is this campaign by government to downplay this technology”

They are about to kick off a stage managed war, maybe global war, all over “energy”. (Energy rich Iran’s pretext for fission development)

They can’t have a worldwide realization that there is no longer any need for conflict over energy.
